Our returning head coach is Holly Merritt. She lives in Birkdale. She has lived here since June 2002. Her husband is David Merritt. She has 3 girls: Heather, Jessica and Kensley. Heather has been swimming on the Birkdale team for four years. Previous to that she was on the Wynfield team for three years. Jessica has been swimming for three years and this will be Kensley's second year on the team.

Holly has been swimming since she was six years old. She swam on summer leagues in Pennsylvania from the time she was six until eighteen. She swam for YMCA’s, AAU teams and USA swimming teams. Went on to swim in college and worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She has been certified many times as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Just recently went and certified again in lifeguard, CPR and first aid.

From Holly:

I am really excited about coaching the Birkdale Team. I would ask for help with names for the first month. Repeat your name numerous times and I will get it. I can’t wait to work with the kids on techniques they will need for the rest of their lives. Swimming is one of the best sports you can ever teach your child. I am ready for a great season. I hope you are ready too!
